Dear Daters,

SolidariTee is the largest student-led charity in the UK, fighting to make sustainable change for refugees and asylum seekers.

We're working to raise awareness of the refugee crisis, and offer grants to NGOs working to provide legal aid and other forms of sustainable support for refugees. Through the sale of our custom-made t-shirts, and hosting events throughout the year ranging from club nights and comedy shows to panels and discussion sessions, we hope to unite the student body in support of refugees, and provide a route through which we can make meaningful, long-term change for refugees.

Why legal aid?

Refugee camps are at breaking point; in Moria camp on Lesvos island in Greece, there are more than 20,000 refugees in a camp built for just 3,000. Refugees who have fled violence and arrived in Greece must wait in these camps for months or years until they can attend an asylum interview, which determines whether they will be able to remain in the host country or not. The asylum process is highly complex and almost impossible to navigate without specialist support - in 2018, 64% of asylum applications in Europe were rejected, despite the fact that over 80% of applicants come from war-stricken countries.

Legal aid prevents those with a legitimate claim to asylum from being deported unjustly, allowing them to go on to lead prosperous lives in their host countries and reducing the strain within dangerously overcrowded camps.

We are delighted to be partnering with the Date Tonight Café for this event, and we hope you all have a wonderful evening! To read more about SolidariTee's work or to purchase your very own t-shirt, please visit:
